The following groups are eligible for the Outdoor Research VIP Program. Approval remains at our discretion based on the applicant’s professional standing and adherence to VIP program rules.

The VIP discount varies based on style and product availability. We reserve the right to adjust VIP pricing or revoke VIP benefits at any time. 


Outdoor Guides

Please provide current guide accreditation.

Mountain Guides:

  • ACMG/AMGA/IFMGA – must be certified as a guide, apprentice guide, or instructor

Other Guides

  • Valid guiding license or certification if applicable
  • Recent paystub from reputable guide service or other documentation proving employment as a guide

Ski Instructors/Ski Patrol

Accepted credentials:

  • PSIA/CSIA Level I or higher
  • NSP/CSP member card

Search and Rescue

Accepted credentials:

  • NASAR membership
  • Local Search and Rescue ID

Outdoor Industry Professionals

Please apply with company-issued email for faster approval and upload most recent paystub if prompted. Reciprocal deals for OR employees are appreciated.

The following groups may qualify:

Non-Profits

Paid employees of organizations that focus on conservation or environmental sustainability. Volunteers do not qualify. Please apply using an official email address issued by the organization and provide most recent paystub if prompted.

Military

Active duty or active reserve members only. Please apply with your personal email to avoid firewall/VPN issues.

Accepted forms of credentials:

  • Recent paystub or Leave and Earnings Statement

  • CF1FC Cards

  • Course certificates

Government

Local, state, and federal government professionals in the following categories:

  • Parks and Recreation
  • Land Management
  • Fish and Wildlife

Please provide valid ID or most recent paystub.

 

University Students

Only students and faculty in the following categories:

  • Employed by the university outdoor recreation program
    • Provide most recent paystub
  • Involved in extensive outdoor fieldwork as part of undergraduate or graduate program
    • Provide proof of coursework or letter from research team lead including applicant name for verification

Media

We will accept applications from professional photographers, writers, or content creators that focus on the outdoor industry. Please submit a link to your website or portfolio to vip@outdoorresearch.com along with any other supporting evidence that you may have after submitting the application.

VIP Program Policies

Please remember to adhere to some of our basic VIP membership rules:

  • This program is for individual use only. You will be removed from the program if you purchase product for friends or family, unless otherwise stated.
  • You MUST stay opted into our marketing emails to receive special VIP discounts, promotions, and to be notified when your account needs to be renewed.
  • This program and your involvement should be kept private. Please do not discuss this program or pricing in public or with Outdoor Research dealers.
  • All VIP orders must be processed through your online account. Your discount does not apply to purchases made through the Outdoor Research Seattle store or at any of our retailers.
  • Eligibility for the VIP Program is subject to review after each year of participation or any time therein.

FAQ

Where is my order?

You can look up the status of your order through the order status form or by logging into your account and viewing the "My Orders" tab.

Keep in mind that VIP orders take 3-5 business days to process, and longer during sale periods.

How do I contact VIP customer support?

Most customer inquiries can be addressed through our Customer Support page.

If your VIP-specific issue is not directly addressed in one of the FAQs below, please reach out to vip@outdoorresearch.com for assistance.

What is the difference between Outdoor Research Pro and Outdoor Research VIP?

We’ve renamed the Outdoor Research Pro Program to the Outdoor Research VIP Program in 2022. The Outdoor Research VIP Program offers the same discounts, same gear, and same eligibility as our pre-existing Pro Program, with a new name that honors the importance of these very important community members.

Outdoor Research VIP Program members will log into your account using the same credentials, and see the new Outdoor Research VIP logo. You’ll also be receiving emails from the Outdoor Research VIP Program.

I'm a Canadian VIP. Why can't I purchase OR Pro products?

At this time, the OR Pro collection is only available in the US.

How do I apply for your VIP Program?

You can fill out the online application by visiting vip.outdoorresearch.com/welcome. If your position requires certifications or other documents, you will be prompted to upload those with your application. Once you have filled out and submitted the application, please allow 3-5 business days for the approval process.

I just got a notification saying that my VIP account was approved, but I'm not seeing the discount applied.

First, make sure that you are logged into your account with the email that you received the notification on. If you're still not seeing your VIP discount, clear your cookies for the Outdoor Research site and log in again.

I'm logged into my VIP account, but don't see my discount. What happened?

Most likely, your VIP account has expired. Good news though! If you still qualify for the VIP program, you can submit a renewal application through vip.outdoorresearch.com/welcome by choosing the "reapply" option. We verify the eligibility of our VIP on an annual basis.

I applied, but never received a verification email. What should I do?

Sometimes people have issues with firewalls or certain browsers and devices. We recommend using Google Chrome on a laptop or PC when submitting the application. If you continue to have issues, please create a general account at https://www.outdoorresearch.com/customer/account/create/ and then email a copy of your credentials to vip@outdoorresearch.com for review.

**Military Members - please submit your application with a civilian email address and provide a leave and earnings statement to avoid issues with firewalls and blocked links.

What documents do I need to supply with my VIP Program application?

If your position requires specific certifications, you will be prompted to upload those with your application. We will accept a paystub or similar proof of work as a substitute. Please blackout any sensitive information, like salary or social security number before the documentation is sent over. If you are not applying with a company email address please attach a document or certification to speed up the application review process.

Can I return or exchange items that were purchased through my VIP account?

VIP customers can return gear purchased within 2 months of the purchase date. VIPs are responsible for submitting their own returns. Returns can be set up through your account when you are logged in and can be returned for online store credit or a refund to your original payment method. VIP orders cannot be returned to our retail store in Seattle without an RMA#. We do not offer exchanges through the return process. Can I purchase a gift for someone else using my VIP account?

No. The Outdoor Research VIP Program is designed for you and your personal use only. We occasionally offer friends and family promotions where VIPs can share their benefits, but purchasing for others is not allowed and will result in your removal from the program.

How can I submit photos of myself in Outdoor Research gear?

We love seeing photos of our VIPs wearing our gear! If you're interested, please send photos or blog pitches to vip@outdoorresearch.com

Submitting content is not a requirement of the VIP program. By submitting photos, you give Outdoor Research the right to use them in marketing efforts as needed.

How long do VIP orders take to ship? Is it possible to expedite the shipping process?

VIP orders typically take about 3-5 business days to process prior to shipping out of our warehouse. Once the order has been processed and shipped, travel time within the United States takes between 2-6 business days for delivery, barring any transportation errors with the shipper. We do offer 2-day and 3-day expedited shipping methods within the US, but it will still take between 3-5 days to process your order before it ships out from our warehouse. We do not offer expedited shipping options in Canada, and we cannot expedite requests for faster shipping options after an order has been placed or accept requests for expedited order processing in our warehouse. *Orders may take 10-14 days to process during holidays or sale periods. Does my VIP Program account expire?

VIP accounts are set up for a year-long term and will need to be renewed each year. When it is coming time to renew, you will receive an email from us letting you know that your account is about to expire, followed by renewal instructions. If your account is expired, or expiring soon, please reapply here: https://vip.outdoorresearch.com/welcome

Can I apply for the VIP Program if I work internationally?

Currently, our VIP Program is only open to residents in the United States and Canada. You can still apply if you have a forwarding address in the US or Canada. We do not accept international payment at this time.

I’m in the military and am stationed outside the United States. Does Outdoor Research ship to APO addresses?

For United States military members stationed abroad, we do ship to APO addresses from our US warehouse. When you apply for the VIP Program you must include a US, non-APO address.

Does free shipping apply to VIP orders or returns?

VIPs are eligible for free standard shipping on orders over $99. VIPs are still responsible for the cost of return shipping.

Do you offer a warranty on items purchased through the VIP Program?

Yes, our Infinite Guarantee® applies to products purchased through the VIP Program. Learn more about our warranty at: https://www.outdoorresearch.com/warranty.

Can I use my VIP account to purchase uniforms for my team/employees?

No. The Outdoor Research VIP Program is designed for you and your personal use only. If your team or employees all qualify for the VIP Program, they may apply for their own individual accounts. For large group orders or to order uniforms, please go through our Group Sales department by emailing groupsales@outdoorresearch.com

Please note: Group Sales orders must include at least 10 total items with a minimum of 5 items in the same style and color.

Can I place a tax-exempt order with my VIP account?

No, our website does not support tax-exempt orders at this time. Tax-exempt orders can be placed through our Group Sales team if the minimum order quantity of 10 total styles and at least 5 items of the same style and color is met. Contact groupsales@outdoorresearch.com

Where can I submit product feedback?

We encourage all VIPs to leave product reviews as often as they can. As part of our VIP Program, we trust your expertise to let us know what you love, what could be improved, and how you like to use your favorite pieces of gear.

Respect

VIP customers are expected to be respectful of Outdoor Research employees, especially customer service and retail store staff. Disputing warranty outcomes, disregarding employee issued directives, or being disrespectful in any sense is a violation of VIP program rules and will result in revoking of VIP privileges.

I see at checkout that I am asked to donate to a non-profit, is this required?

Donating to a charity on every purchase is an integral and required part of the VIP Program. Under no circumstances will the charity donation be waived, demanding the removal of the donation is a violation of VIP rules and may result in the revoking of VIP privileges.


VIP Program Terms of Use

Participating in this program is a privilege and there are guidelines that must be followed. Please note that as a buyer in this program, you must enter into an agreement between Outdoor Research and you, the Buyer. Once accepted, you the Buyer shall not sell Outdoor Research product to any individual, department, team or unit for a profit. At no time should Outdoor Research products be sold or diverted for resale in any environment whatsoever-including but not limited to Internet, swap meets or flea markets etc. Participation includes membership in our email newsletters and notifications to the buying group on special buying programs and offers. A new sales agreement will need to be submitted with the Buyer's first order of every calendar year. The Buyer agrees to these terms with initial purchase.
